Zombie Deer Disease Has Spread Over 24 US States And It Can Affect Humans As Well!

This is not a drill, the residents of the United States and pretty much the rest of the world is in a state of panic as they should be! The zombie apocalypse we have always feared and heard about in movies and TV shows is actually happening. More than 20 states, twenty-four US states to be exact, have reported cases of zombie deer disease and more and more cases are turning up. Zombie deer disease is a brain-wasting animal disease which has affected deer, moose, and elks so far but scientists are fearing that the disease which literally eats brain from the inside and leaves holes in the animal’s body could spread to humans, too.

Reports of  Chronic Waste Disease have been surfacing since January and have shot up in the recent few weeks. Now affecting various US states, the zombie deer disease has reached two provinces of Canada. “We are in an unknown territory situation,” Michael Osterholm, director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota toldUSA Today.

There is currently no known cure or treatment of the disease and authorities are fearing that zombie deer disease could spread to humans as well and have urged people to stay away from deer and not consume deer meat for the time being. CWD is fatal and animals affected by it lose weight drastically, experience body tremors, salivate excessively and grind their teeth. The disease is progressive and always ends in death.

While there is no known case of the disease affecting humans, there have been cases in which monkeys and squirrels got affected by the same, which is a major cause of concern and has people across the globe absolutely terrified. “It is probable that human cases of chronic wasting disease associated with consumption with contaminated meat will be documented in the years ahead. It’s possible the number of human cases will be substantial and will not be isolated events,” Michael warned people about the possible spread.

Prevention is better than cure, stay safe, stay away from deers. Centers For Disease Control And Prevention has issued guidelines which will help you stay safe from the deadly disease which many are comparing to the fatal mad cow disease. According to them, CWD can spread to humans if we consume an infected deer so your best bet is to not consume one at all. “In areas where CWD is known to be present, CDC recommends that hunters strongly consider having those animals tested before eating the meat.”

“Testing may not be available in every state, and states may use these tests in different ways. A negative test result does not guarantee that an individual animal is not infected with CWD, but it does make it considerably less likely and may reduce your risk of exposure to CWD,” they add saying there’s no safe way of actually knowing if an animal is infected or not. If you see a deer lying on the road, speed up and run away.

This disease was first observed in deer populations in the 1960s but was never seen as a threat to humans due to lack of data and scientific tools. Now, however, over 79% of them are infected and are rapidly spreading the same to others. The scary and deadly disease infects the brains of animals and slowly eats them up from the inside, making them look and act like zombies until they finally die a painful death.
